Nomination of Harry O'Connor To Be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

President Ronald Reagan today announced his intention to nominate Harry O'Connor to be a
member of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for a term
expiring March 1, 1984. Mr. O'Connor would succeed Charles W. Roll, Jr.
Since 1968, Mr. O'Connor has served as chairman of O'Connor Creative Services, Inc, in
Universal City, CA. O'Connor Creative Services produced and syndicated Ronald
Reagan's daily radio broadcasts in 1975-1979. Mr. O'Connor is also president of
Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters. Previously he was writer, producer and salesman with
Mel Blanc Associates, in 1964-1967; principal and president, Archer Productions, in 1962;
principal and general manager of radio station KTXO in Sherman, TX, and KGKB in
Tyler, TX, in 1960-1961. His experience in the radio industry dates back to
1943, when he joined radio station KMAC in San Antonio. Mr. O'Connor has five
children and resides in Playa del Rey, Calif. He was born March 22, 1926, in
San Antonio, TX.

Harry O'Connor first started in radio about 1943 on KMAC-AM in San Antonio working with veterans Joe Allison and Biff Collie on what was then called "a record show." O'Connor did writing and producing on the 11 PM-1 AM "Jukebox Saturday Night" program.
He later did a country music record show on KWBU-AM in Corpus Christi, then went back to KMAC-AM in 1948 and was into live television work by the end of 1950.
Then came a stint in military service. Afterwards he worked at WBOK-AM in New Orleans, KTXM-AM in Austin as sales manager for three years; KTSA-AM in San Antonio, then alternately into management in Temple, Tyler, and Sherman, all in Texas.
In 1961 he left radio to join Comercial Recording Corporation, operated by Tom Merryman. That same year he became a partner of Archer Productions in Los Angeles where he worked on "Sound of the City" theme with Hugh Heller and Johnny Mann. Then back to Dallas where he packed and syndicated old Bob and Ray Shows.
In 1964 he returned to Los Angeles and worked three years with Mel Blanc before starting his own firm and launching the humor series "Superfun."
